Under the patronage of HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal Bin Abd Al-Aziz, Director of the King Faisal Foundation and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alfaisal University, the ‘Pioneers in Medicine’ symposium organised by King Faisal Prize and Alfaisal University started today with the participation of a host of leading global and Saudi medical scientists.

Marking a major step towards enriching the medical field and localising knowledge in the country, the event is being organised as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of King Faisal Prize and takes place at Princess Haya bint Turki Auditorium in Alfaisal University, and is open to members of the public. The event is accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) with Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours. The ‘Pioneers in Medicine’ event includes highly interactive sessions presented by laureates of King Faisal Prize in Medicine and Saudi medical pioneers from key medical fields such as oncology, cardiology, fetal medicine and surgery, genetics, and family medicine.

The discussions over the next two days hold considerable significance for the medical sector in Saudi Arabia as well as the region as experts highlight latest research findings that have the potential to transform the treatment of major diseases. These discussions will also shed light on the Kingdom’s journey in the medical field and the achieved milestones as well as bring attention to current and future major issues of concern and the ongoing efforts to overcome them.

H.E. Dr. Tawfiq Bin Fawzan Al Rabiah, Minister of Health, Saudi Arabia, will honor the participating pioneers tomorrow (December 2) in recognition of their remarkable services and contributions in improving healthcare and advancing the medical field.
