Gusella was awarded the prize for discovering the gene (Huntington’s disease), which affects the nervous system and causes involuntary movements and psychological changes, his discovery of the linkage of this gene to a protein he called (Huntington), which enabled him to know the detailed structure of the disease gene, and his discovery of other genes that cause the aforementioned disease.
