Born: 28/8/1971, Heerlen, The Netherlands
Professor Joris Veltman was awarded the prize for his role, with Professor Han Brunner, in advancing the clinical applications of the next generation in genetics to clinical diagnosis, as they developed practical methods for analyzing samples of patients suspected of having genetic diseases. This prompted the introduction of these technologies into the medical clinic. As a team, they initiated international collaborations in genetics research and diagnosis, published their research in internationally distinguished journals, and received recognition from colleagues in the discipline as innovative scientists.
