Professor Shawqi Daif was awarded the prize for his valuable works in Arabic literary studies, especially those related to 2nd and 3rd Hijri centuries; in addition to his other contributions in modern and ancient Arabic literature, and in Quranic and linguistic studies. His works are distinguished by several factors including: his thorough perspective on Arabic Literature including prose and poetry throughout its eras and multiple arts and areas, his clear manner and balanced methodology, the exploration of some broad literary phenomena and connecting them to their sociological and intellectual origins, and his guidance of literary studies and exploring new matters that benefited a generation of researchers in their academic theses.
