Professor Lelio Orci was awarded the prize for his accurate and distinguished studies in the field of diabetes and its relation to the structure of Langerhans islets and its biological mechanism. The results of his research on the exact structure and histochemical immunity of these islets led to the knowledge of their structure and thus their physiological function, which enriched scientific knowledge regarding pancreatic hormones and helped to understand more about the functioning of these cells in diabetic patients.
